Accepting who we are can be difficult sometimes. When I say who we are, I’m talking about our identity.

What is an identity?

What does it mean to have an identity? Well, it’s a complex concept that can take on various forms throughout our lives. As we grow from being a child to an adult, our identity naturally evolves and adapts to the different environments we find ourselves in.

However, I believe that at the core, our true identity should remain constant. We should always be able to express who we are, regardless of the circumstances we’re in.

The identity I’m referring to encompasses not only our own unique personality but also the influence of our parents and grandparents. It’s often said that we don’t choose our parents, but I have a different perspective on this. I believe that on a spiritual level, we actually do choose our parents before we are born. But that’s a topic for another discussion.

When it comes to our identity, it’s important to recognize that it’s a blend of both our mom and dad. We inherit not only physical traits and genetics but also certain mannerisms and characteristics that we pick up from our parents. These elements, combined with our own personal attributes, make up the beautiful tapestry of our individual identity.

When do you decide not to accept your identity?

Deciding not to accept your identity often begins when we realize our parents are just as human as we are, with their own strengths and weaknesses.

As others start to point out traits we’ve inherited from our parents in a negative light, we may wish we were someone else entirely – perhaps a child born to different parents with better qualities.

This leads to rejecting our true selves and adopting a facade. We hide our true personality and identity for years, causing inner turmoil. Eventually, this inner conflict manifests as depression and loneliness. We feel out of place and unsettled, unable to pinpoint the source of our discomfort.

When we are not in tune with our true selves, our bodies send signals to alert us. For instance, individuals of mixed heritage may struggle with accepting all aspects of their identity. Embracing both sides of who you are, inner-standing the cultures and qualities associated with each, is crucial for inner peace.

By being authentic and accepting yourself fully, you will attract genuine connections and lead a more fulfilling life. Embrace your true self – there is nothing more liberating.

Be yourself, there is nothing more peaceful than that.
